Our Leading Lady

Leading Lady Lottie Cassandra Mickens Spurlock is the wife of Gregory L. Spurlock, Pastor Oak Grove Baptist Church, Sterling, Virginia.  A native of Petersburg, Virginia, Lady Lottie received the Lord as her Savior at the tender age of eight, and throughout her childhood and young adult years, she served in various capacities at her home church, First Baptist Church, Petersburg, Virginia.

Lady Lottie has been married to Pastor Gregory L. Spurlock, for 25 years, and to this union, their children Ivana and Gregory, Jr. were born.  Throughout 23 years in ministry alongside her husband, Lady Lottie served in the following capacities for 14 years at their first church assignment, Lebanon Baptist Church, Surry County, Virginia: Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, New Members’ Welcoming Ministry, Choir Director, and Coordinator of the Jesus’ Anointed Youth (JAY) Zone!

In addition to the supportive role of a Pastor’s Wife, Leading Lady Lottie currently supports her husband in ministry at Oak Grove, by serving in various capacities: Workshop Facilitator, Praise Team Worship Leader, and choir member, assisting with directing, when necessary.  She serves as a Deaconess and always strives to exemplify Christ and shares the Word of God.   At OGBC, Leading Lady Lottie serves as a gracious hostess, showing hospitability to visiting First Ladies and has taken on hosting fellowship gatherings for the OGBC Church Family.  In 2016, Lady Lottie was honored by Area D Missionary Ministry of the Northern VA Baptist Association for work in her church community.

Lottie received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Virginia State University, a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Central Michigan University, and a post-graduate degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She is also a member of the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated.

God has blessed Lady Lottie, as she serves not only as a wife, mother, but she serves our community as a career woman, as the current Director of Equity for Loudoun County Public Schools. She is enthusiastic about serving in this role as LCPS makes diversity, inclusion and equity a priority.

Lady Lottie joined the Superintendent’s staff after having previously served as principal of both Cardinal Ridge and Rolling Ridge elementary schools.  Prior to that, she was the assistant principal of Guilford Elementary and A.P. Hill Elementary in the Petersburg City Schools.  Mrs. Spurlock also was the site coordinator of the Communities in School Program at Chalkley Elementary School in the Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Leading Lady Lottie believes firmly in the Word of God and standing on His promises.  Two of her favorite scriptures are “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phillipians 4:6-7), as well as “Rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus, concerning you.” (I Thessalonians 5:16-18).  Lady Lottie is blessed and strives to be a blessing to others through her service and leadership in her church, community, and to the body of Christ.
